Skipathon
The sun shone brightly on Thursday 4th June as pupils, staff and parents all gathered in the school yard for our annual Skipathon. This was our main fundraising event this year and we would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents, relatives, friends and neighbours who so generously sponsored the children. The money raised will be used to purchase interactive whiteboards for some of our classrooms.
As well as raising funds for the school, the Skipathon was also a fun event for all. For the past few weeks, all the children had been practising their skipping and on the day prizes were awarded to the best skipper in each class. A large number of enthusiastic mams, dads and grannies took part in the parents’ competition – it looked like they had been practising too! Finally we had the teachers’ competition – it was a very close contest but in the end, for the second year running, Ms. Mongan was declared the winner! Well done to everyone who took part.
In between the skipping competitions we were entertained by displays of music and dancing. The day began with a lively and colourful performance from the school Marching Band, made up of all pupils from 3rd to 6th Class. We also had some tunes from the after-school keyboard group. The girls from Natalya’s ballet class gave a beautiful performance and we had some wonderful Irish dancing from various classes who are taught each week by our dancing teacher, Cecilia.
Thanks also to the Parents’ Association who organized some very welcome refreshments for everyone. Here are some photographs of a very enjoyable day.
